SEO Myths You Must Leave Behind In 2021_ Part 2

Ryan Stack • Feb 22, 2021

SEO is an incredibly powerful tool, and is now utilized across industries as a means to further their digital marketing campaigns. Although it holds the means to bring traffic to your website, many regard SEO as an untamable enigma. Many jump on the ship and expect to sail without turbulence, but the reality is that SEO requires effort and patience.

Only those capable of consistency and determination can truly benefit from the tool, but unfortunately, many fall into the pitfall of misconceptions and myths. As a result, most fail to realize their goals with their SEO campaigns, causing them to miss out on the rewards and benefits.

To ensure that you make the most of your SEO campaigns, here is a continuation of our mini-series. Here’s part two of SEO myths you need to leave in 2020—and start anew:

If you missed part one, check it out here: 3 SEO myths to abandon in 2021

Myth #4: Your backlinks will earn you better rankings

Backlinks are undeniably vital to your SEO campaign success, but most people assume that it’s the only determining factor. Unfortunately, backlinks are only a part of the bigger picture, and they do not guarantee your campaign’s success.

In other words, believing that more backlinks mean better rankings is false—as with everything in the digital world, the quality will always trump quantity. Bear in mind that your links must also come from credible sources, as anything less will mark your own website as spam, thereby further affecting your rankings.

Myth #5: You should direct all your efforts into your social media accounts

It’s easy to assume that just because you have a successful social media presence and a large number of followers in your channels, you automatically get a boost in your search engine rankings. However, this doesn’t hold true most of the time. While it’s not the only aspect that you should focus on to boost your rankings, having a large following can increase the number of visitors to your site and can certainly help in your rankings.

To improve your social media presence, you can focus on making sure that your content is engaging, useful, and something that people will want to see. It may be tempting to just buy followers, these fake followers will not actually visit your page, engage with your content, or purchase from your site.

Instead, it’s important to take time and effort in building your social media presence to draw people into engaging with your business and eventually earning your trust. This may not be directly responsible for improving your rankings, but it can certainly help in drastically increasing your website’s traffic.

Myth #6: One success guarantees the success of the other efforts

Your website may rank as number one in a particular search term, but this doesn’t guarantee that it will rank successfully in other search keywords. There are billions of search terms that you might also want to consider tapping into. Successful SEO can help your site achieve good rankings and establish credibility to your site.

The Bottom Line

Given that you’re operating in an ever-changing landscape, your SEO efforts need to be up to date, particularly when it comes to the techniques you use. The only way to reach success is to make use of the right strategies, and that entails avoiding pesky SEO myths. Make sure to keep this guide in mind!
