Why every business needs a Social Media Content Calendar

Tips for social media content calendar
Most small business owners got into their business because they were passionate about it, not because they wanted to become marketers. Marketing your business used to be simple. You took out a few yellow page ads, advertised in the newspaper, bought an ad from your town’s baseball team and relied heavily on word of mouth advertising. Over the last 10 years, advertising has become so complex and the average owner doesn’t have the time, knowledge or desire to navigate it all.

With all the hours that you put into running your actual business, does it sometimes feel like your marketing strategy has become a game of darts? Is everything working independently or supported by each other? Are you taking advantage of the world’s largest referral network, social media, or are you looking at social media as an afterthought? Are you posting with intention or are you posting to post?

Creating a Content Calendar is important for you marketing strategy because:
  1. Your customers are on social media all day. Word-of-mouth advertising is the most valuable marketing there is, and Social Media IS word-of-mouth advertising….on steroids.
  2. Consistency. Your plan will keep you posting and engaging consistently so that your audience knows what to expect and wants to engage with you.
  3. Intention & Focus. By thinking about what to post, you can create a home-base that distributes thoughtful content which supports your overall marketing goals, rather than just posting on the fly.
  4. Efficiency. Simply having the plan will help you to allocate your human and other resources to do this job well and efficiently. You can assign the task out easily since the plan is already in place. (Or even invest in a basic scheduler to save more time)
  5. Engagement. With your content plan handled, it frees up your social media time to do more important tasks- such as engage with followers, hashtags and even prospect online.
